The Limboo language is part of the Sino-Tibetan family, spoken in regions such as Sikkim, parts of West Bengal (like Darjeeling and Kalimpong), Assam, Nepal, Bhutan, and beyond. In Sikkim, the formal teaching of Limboo began in 1968 during the Namgyal Kingdom. Since then, Limboo has become part of the government school curriculum, with studies extending up to the Ph.D. level at Sikkim University. Limboo has a significant presence in media, with daily radio programs and weekly publications in the language.
The CBSE Class 10 Limboo syllabus is designed to equip students with skills in reading, writing, grammar, and literature. The curriculum balances linguistic mastery with cultural appreciation, making it an enriching experience for students.

Syllabus Structure
The course structure for Class 10 Limboo (Code 025) is divided into four main sections—reading, writing, grammar, and literature. These sections are designed to test students’ language proficiency and understanding of Limboo culture.
Section Breakdown
1. Reading (Unseen Comprehension)
• Students are required to attempt one unseen passage out of the two provided.
• This section carries 5 marks and tests students’ ability to comprehend and analyze unfamiliar text.
2. Grammar (Thangsing Yakthung Huppan Nu Itchap)
• The grammar section covers essential topics such as Losok, Pammay, Yem, Kapwa, and several others that focus on the correct usage of language structure.
• This section is worth 20 marks and is crucial for building a strong linguistic foundation.
3. Seen Comprehension (Prose and Poetry)
• There will be one seen passage each from the prose and poetry books. Students need to answer all questions based on these texts.
• This section carries 10 marks, split equally between prose and poetry comprehension.
4. Literature (Patila Sapsok and Sammila Sapsok)
• The literature section includes both prose and poetry, featuring texts such as Kambhasit Patung, Neyemba Meem, and Nakchalam. Students are expected to study selected chapters from the prescribed texts.
• This section is the most extensive, carrying 30 marks, and provides insights into Limboo’s rich literary heritage.
5. Writing Skills
• The writing section includes essay writing, letter writing, and translation exercises from English to Limboo.
• This section carries a total of 15 marks, with 5 marks each for essays, letters, and translations.
Internal Assessment
The internal assessment component is worth 20 marks and evaluates students’ speaking and listening skills. This continuous assessment encourages practical use of the language in real-life situations.
